Carry the Forest: Designing a Bag for Forestry Machine Operators
Sandra Jarauta Abadia
2025
This project aimed not to design just another bag, but to develop a truly meaningful solution for forestry machine operators, workers who transport personal and work-related items daily between home and cabin. Through extensive user-centered research, including surveys, interviews, testing, and material analysis, the project identified critical, unmet needs that face ongoing challenges: lack of organization, poor insulation for food and drinks, and limited space inside the machine. These insights drove the development of a multifunctional backpack tailored to their demanding environment. The final design features modular compartments, waterproof and insulation materials, ergonomic comfort, and the ability to integrate into the cabin for added storage. This is not just a bag, but a targeted, well-researched tool that directly improves the user’s workflow. The project was developed in collaboration with Terri AB Skogsmaskiner and reflects their brand identity through thoughtful use of materials and color.
